Good guesses but, not quite.

Here's a hint: it's a powerplant for a really hi-tech gadget grinning smiley

Looks like a 'beetle' motor.

I haddn seen the new Beetle engines but the original 4cyls they used were "pancake" flat 4s like the older Porches, BMW bike motors or the most recent use of this design in Subarus. But, I'd hardly lump a Beetle in a high tech gadget category winking

That's an impressive little engine they have designed there. I'm sure there could be a lot of other applications for that little power plant.

Lookin at that exhaust manifold looks like a helluva challenge to have made it at all. Lotsa tight bends and toppin it off with a 4-into-1 X-design crossover/collector before it finally exhausts, WoW, that would be tricky totally lost

I was thinking that was the intake? I thought the lower pipe loops up to the center of the X from the bottom side and the splits out to the four intakes. The black runners on the ousides were the exhaust manifolds? I debated back and forth on it though. You're right, nasty bit of work to fabricate that piece!

Without more detail it's kinda hard to say, could be either I guess. I know it would be backwards from most accepted intake/exhaust routing for the exhaust to exit from the center of the engine. The reason I thought the chromed looking manifold was the exhaust is it kinda looks like there's a fuel rail attached to the black manifold. But that could be some type of EGT too, so totally lost

I saw the rail on the "exhaust" side too and wondered if it was fuel or EGT. Maybe it is exhaust and they put a fuel rail on it to shoot some sweet flames out of the bottom of the jetpack! Now THAT would be a sight smiling

Another reason the big manifold thing could be exhaust is that all that curly piping would make for roughly equal length runners... but what an ass backwards way to bring the 4 of them together (from what can be seen here anyhow). The pulses are running straight into each other.

Yep, I can't see that thing being an efficient set up for an exhaust or an intake though it would problee make a better intake design than exhaust.

Ever toyed with the idea of a basically backwards exhaust manifold for an intake with the throttle body mounting at the end of the collector? Mitsu makes one for the 2000+ 2.4s. 'Course they did it half assed from the factory with a pinched to hell tubing arrangement at the collector but that was the 1st intake mani I ever saw like it .... and I like the idea rock
