well if that is a new discovery it certainly is a preditor with those eyes facing forward as they are!

It is a bird and it is a predator, of sorts, but it is not a new discovery. They are beautiful birds that feed on flying insects. They are seen most often around dusk when they fly around over lighted ball diamonds and the like, darting and diving for insects. They are known by many names; bull-bats, nightjars, nighthawks, and whip-poor-wills (for their persistant calls heard near nightfall)

Um, it's a tawny frogmouth owl. Nothing special about it.
