when I transferred my 43 gigs of music to this HD I did it at 1 gig per second, I don't see what the big deal is?

That's pretty impressive so what are your system specs confused smiley

Yep lex I knew when I read your claim it was more than highly unlikely you actually managed such a data transfer rate and here's the proof: :[lyberty.com] the upshot of which is shown below since I know how you despise having to actually read anything eye

[6] SATA Drive Transfer Speeds, in Bytes (real, as opposed to fuzzy, math):

Note that these speeds are for the interface (parallel interface), and is limited by (among other things)
the physical (hardware) speed of the disk drive.
As an example, Western Digital's fastest SATA drive (2005) has about a 68 MB/s Buffer to Disk sustained (write) speed...

*ACTUAL speeds for a single SATA-drive, in personal read & write tests, range from around 41 MBytes/s to 91 MB/s (peak). (Note the buffer-to-disk-limitation.)

My machine is not quite state of the art but it's close to as good as you can build these days (a constantly moving target) and having watched the data transfer rates climb higher and higher over the years I also knew that 59.2mbps is pretty damned fast.

Maybe you've figured a way to bend the laws of physics and manage 1gig per second, but I highly doubt it.

Nice try though monty

How do you measure transfer speed?
Are you using software? Can you measure burst rate?

in ubuntu it shows in the transfer window. thumbs

Yeah, my file transfer program displays a continuous transfer rate, starts a bit slower usually on big files then gets faster. If memory serves me right this particular transfer started out at about 45mb/s.

Dudn really matter if I can see a burst speed or not if the sustainable transfer rate (considering the buffering) is only able to hit 68mb/s. Maybe if I'd have opted for the 32mb cache version drives instead of the 16s I could pick it up just a bit more, but even 68mb/s ia a long fuckin way from 1000mb/s no matter how you look at it winking

It was several years ago and I didn't remember it right. I had 2 PCs hooked together with a crossover cable and it was transferring a gig per minute.

Just a lapse in memory, not intentional, I just remember it being a heck of a lot faster than I could download stuff at the time.

I bet it made detective kim's day looking up all the info to prove that can't be done that fast.

Oh and BTW. do better research next time.

"The ioDrive duo comes with 160GB of storage, for the basic model, with up to 1.28TB for the top model, it has read speeds of 1.5GB per second and write speeds of 1.4GB per second.

It is designed for the server and enterprise market and can be used in a RAID-1 setup for maximum performance..

It is possible to use the RAID-1 setup with just one card, between two memory modules, as the other ioDrives it connect to your PC via a PCie slot.

There is no word on pricing as yet, it is due to go on sale in April, I bet it is going to cost a fair bit when it is launched, especially the 1.28TB model."

Oh yeah, lots of us are able to have server/enterprise class machines layin around .... as long as your last name is Gates/Perot or Trump eye

I purposely didn't include discussion of rates possible by such machines as they are effectively irrelevant in discussing home and even most business PCs file transfer rates.

Nice try at attempting to manage the spin on your obvious inaccuracy in your claim though. Might I recommend a cabinet position in the current administration to best utilize these types of capabilities? They seem to need all the help they can get in that area these days monty

You don't know who I am or very much about me, yet you assume I don't have access to hardware like that?monty

How do you know I don't already have one of those drives, or for that matter you don't even know if I might have helped develop the thing. monty

Making blatent assumptions like that just make you look like even more of a conceited asshole than we already know you are. People who can't admit they are wrong even when the proof is right in front of their noses have some serious unresolved ego issues.monty

Pics are nice and all, but fuck a pic.

System specs and a screenshot of a transfer & you'll have me convinced, hell ... I'd even straight up apologize for havin doubted ya, even give ya week to draw a crowd if that flips your switch.

Simple enough, right smiling

BTW, relevant to this part of your above tirade : I might be a very rich man for all you know about me.

Yeah, and I might be Steve Jobs too, but since there aren't any checks showin up in my mailbox from Apple it looks kinda doubtful.

But with that in mind, if indeed you do seem to be overburdened with the "too much cash" syndrome you're certainly welcome to send all tax deductible donations to the Help Mrkim Stimulate The Local Economy Fund.

Rest assured all donations will be put to work post haste and the account will be emptied out faster than a condom dispenser when the fleet hits port. It's kinda my own personal local stimulus program but I stand at the ready to accept donations from Floridians bent on improving the local Texas economy.

All bank and credit card account numbers welcomed too, just don't forget to include your PIN, CCV, DL and Social Security numbers with your submissions! rock
