90130, what? That flag? That new, made in china, piece of nylon cloth? Those
soldiers did not die for a flag! It really irks me when people say that. Those
proud Americans may have fought and died for their country, for freedom, for
their friends and family, for security, for their way of life, for your way of
life, for a multitude of other reasons, but if they did it for a flag, they
should have just gone home then gone down to the local store and bought one
instead.
I'm glad you appreciate the sacrifice others have made, but give them the due
they deserve.
And as for the hippies and complacent idiots, I thought one of the things that
flag stood for was freedom of speech?

My Uncle retired from the NZ Army as a Colonel, after being the youngest Major
they had ever had up to that point (I believe the record has been broken since),
so I will ask him next time I see him, 90130. But if he, or anybody else who
served, tells me they fought/served for the flag I'll tell them the same thing I
told you (although probably more politely) and get them to consider what they
believe the flag represents that they really fought/served for.
I do not, and would not, question their patriotism, or bravery, just their
choice of words to describe what they fought/served for.

90130, you are completely misunderstanding my point, and honestly it's starting
to piss me off!
I am proud of my country (and I am sure my Uncle is too), and part of that is
it's history, including it's independence, so no, the Japanese flag would not be
acceptable to me. What I can't understand is how you cannot see that what the
flag represents is so much more important than the flag itself!
IF (and yes it is in upper-case deliberately) the NZ flag was to change to
something more contemporary it would not change my feelings towards my country
and I would feel the same pride for my country seeing the new flag flying as i
currently experience when I see the current one!

The flag is a symbol which encompasses all the good aspects of a country and it
really doesn't matter where it was made, but I think the original post was meant
to imply that china is buying America's honor and dignity in this day and age.
Not only are they buying America but they are also poisoning us as well.
