I'm sure Lewis Carroll would have spelt Curiuoser the same both times he used it MrKim!

This is not Christianity, this is organised religion and egotism. If he was islamic we would call him a fanatic and governments around the world would have files on him.

Christ turned water into wine at a wedding, does anyone really think that after doing that he discouraged people from dancing at the same celebration?

I truly hope that this post is a joke, because if there are people out there who believe that drivel enough to think they should advertise it, then that is scary!

I don't think it's the dancing that sends you to hell, it's what it leads to.

"Reverend Jerry Falwell says dancing leads to premarital sex, drinking, smoking, voting pro-choice and driving foreign cars. And I always trust Reverend Falwell."

Fuck I hate that sack of shit. I hate him almost as much as I hate Benny Hinn. One down, one to go.

I hate the whole damn lot of them. You're spot on about islam extremists too. If one of these guys was from the middle east, there'd be a war on terror declared against then.

I am impressed that there has actually been some intelligent comments on this rather than the usual anti-god barrage. I am happy to admit I have Christian beliefs, and don't even have an issue with Christian fundamentalists, but this sort of opinionated morality is not what Christ was about, it's not what the bible is about, and it's a far cry from true Christianity. Trying to control peoples lives like that is just a power trip. It is this sort of ill advised, badly researched opinions and public brainwashing that has led to dark moments in history like religious crusades/wars that killed thousands. It's the same as islamic extremists - they do not represent islam as a whole and are using their own interpretation of teachings to justify their actions. I really don't see any difference here. If somebody can, please explain it to me.

Sorry that I have basically repeated my previous comments, but this sort of thing really grates!

Yeah.. unfortunately, the televangelists even appear in Australia in their natural form. Fortunately though, they tend to be on TV at 4am.

It was weird, sitting up all night smoking weed watching them spew their garbage - I seriously began a hatred for them more deep than you could ever imagine. Benny Hinn is the worst I think. Fucker sits on TV telling me he's going to cure all the world's problems and heal all the world's sick if only I send him a couple of dollars ....

Investigations have shown that his "ministry" generates far more wealth than it needs to, yet "Benny Hinn Ministries is not a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability". In December 2006, BHM sent out a mailing asking for donations towards a new Gulfstream G4SP jet valued at an estimated US$36 million and costs over US$600,000/year to maintain and operate.

Just reading through the criticisms section of his Wikipedia page makes me want to slap him. [en.wikipedia.org]

The thing I hate most about televangelism, and what these people do, is they prey on the weak and in pain to further their own financial gain. I have no problems with people finding religion if it helps them, but this isn't any kind of help I'd ever want. "Send me your money, and I will pray for you".

Fucking assholes.

You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth, GAK, though the fundamentalists do often give me pause.

Bah, it was 5:40 in the am GAK & my 2nd cup of joe haddn quite kicked in yet, dude. Though I tend to murder our language for my own amusement, I do try to spell things correctly, but ... I'm human yakno!

Televangelists/evangelicals all get painted with the same brush as other groups of Christians from my perspective though since they all have the Bible as their base document, even if there is a good deal of disparity in how certain groups bend/abuse/manipulate it to push their own agendas, while others aren't quite as brash.

From a purely humanist viewpoint, they all seem wacked to me, but as was said above, if that keeps your boat on an even keel, sail on sailor smileys with beer

Despite my vitriol before, and lando's assertion, I am not convinced this is not a spoof. Firstly, the woman in the front 'pointing out' her niece looks as though she is dancing like the rest of the crowd. Secondly, the comment about 'driving foreign cars' is a step too far. Thirdly, while I know these guys want your money to say "I really, really need your dollars. Today." is about as subtle as fixing your wrist watch with a sledge hammer. Lastly, as Wolfgang pointed out, dancing is not exactly frowned upon in the bible.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

I agree that is just a little too over the top to be real, but the Baptist church my mother attends believes dancing is wrong and has even tried to offer kids an alternative to attending their proms. Is ridiculous things like this that caused me to stop going to ghurch many, many years ago. I'm just a little more rational than to believe a lot of the crap that some people claim as part of Chritianity, nor do I believe the stuff in the Bible is anything more than a lot of story telling with some good moral teachings sprinkled throughout which people routinely twist to fit their own pathological whims.

Wait up, Diane, I'm probably going with you.

I'd believe it, when that church's website posts things like the following.

As seen at [trbc.org]

(one of the parent's rules for dating his daughter)

Rule Eight:
The following places are not appropriate for a date with my
daughter: Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything
softer than a wooden stool. Places where there are no
parents, policemen, or nuns within eyesight. Places where
there is darkness. Places where there is dancing, holding
hands, or happiness. Places where the ambient temperature
is warm enough to induce my daughter to wear shorts, tank
tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a
sweater, and a goose down parka - zipped up to her throat.
Movies with a strong romantic or sexual theme are to be
avoided; movies which features chain saws are okay.
Hockey games are okay. Old folks homes are better.

Rule Nine:
Do not lie to me. I may appear to be a potbellied, balding,
middle-aged, dimwitted has-been. But on issues relating to
my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless god of your
universe. If I ask you where you are going and with whom,
you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth
and nothing but the truth. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and
five acres behind the house. Do not trifle with me.

Now I know it is a spoof, pulse. My boss, who had a daughter in her early teens at the time, received a joke email with "Rules for dating my tenage daughter" that included the two you just listed. It also had a questionaire for potential dates attached. My favourite was: "What I like most about your daaughter is her_________. (If your answer begins with a 'B' I would suggest running - fast, and for your safety, preferably in a zig zag fashion."
