This was actually the result of an evolution progression DNA mutation simulation. The programmer wrote a routine that 'evolved' a 'DNA sequence' through random mutation to see how many permutations it would take to achieve 'order' through chance. In this case the 'order' was a picture of the Mona Lisa and the 'DNA' was a series of random polygon generation instructions. It took about a million cycles before this was achieved and I believe the algorithm failed to find another progressive mutation in a reasonable amount of time before it was stopped. If you look at the last couple frames you'll see the progression had slowed to >300,000 cycles. An interesting study in goal based evolution.
