Why do people live in such places? They KNOW this shit is gonna happen! Explain this to me.

I've always thought this curious too. I love the coast and have many fond memories of the breeze comin in off the ocean and how amazing that feels, walkin on the beach and playin in the surf, but ..... I've always known what an equally dangerous place it can be to be so close to this same wonder.

To me, it would be magical to live on the coast, but ..... the "safe and sane" side of me chooses to live off an inland lake instead grinning smiley

I'm here because my mom wanted to live someplace warm and was oblivious to the threat of hurricanes when she and dad came here thirty years ago. I followed them three years later 'cause dad was in his early 70's & I thought I'd be close for as long as he was around. I've raised a family here and now my mom is in her 80's & really needs my help so here I am. We had over 40 years between hurricanes and here's hoping it'll be at least another 40 or more.
