I am so sorry, but I maintain it is a Ford GPW.

This is evidenced by the square front member underneath the radiator grille, and the shape of the L/H fender near the front shock absorber bracket. The year 1944 is based on the form of the steering wheel. It could be a replacement item, but I doubt it. Reporters and photographers were better drivers than most GI's.

The vehicle in that link is mis-labeled as it is also a Ford GPW, even though the (repro) ident plate says WILLYS MB.

The vehicle in that picture is a M38A1, mid to late production run, ca. 1958-59, difficult to tell with that picture.

How do I know?

I used to work at one of the bigger military surplus vehicle companies in Europe. I personally own 6 different types of military JEEPs, and I have restored many examples of the vehicles in question here. I am a national referee for military vehicles at car shows,...yada, yada, yada yawning

Ford built these under contract as well as Willys Overland, whom were relegated to building utility trailers for the army if I'm not mistaken. Right Nigel?

Fun facts; The name "Jeep" comes from the military designation "GP" or general purpose.

The word "Huey" came from the army designation "HU-1" for the helicopter that faithfully served our soldiers in Vietnam.

The word "Humvee" comes from the army designation "HMMV" or = High Mobility Multiwheeled Vehicle =.

ReCreated WW2 pic. You can goto these events on scheduled weekend. I looked into getting a bunch of gamers that played COD2(Call of Duty 2) to goto event so we could get some authentic lookin photographs.
