I know a few Aboriginal guides at Uluru that care. Tell them to shut their 'pie-hole' while at the top and you may have a little accident on the way down.

I can't remember when it was and can't be bothered googling it but it was back in eighties that the Aborigines were given the land back and it went back to Uluru.

Most Australians still call it Ayres Rock

Abo's are a dying race, who gives a shit what they call the stoopid rock. They also believe a spirit lives there and tried to stop tourists from climbing on the rock.
In 1993 a dual naming policy was adopted that allowed official names that consist of both the traditional Aboriginal name and the English name. On 15 December 1993 Uluru was renamed "Ayers Rock/Uluru" and became the first officially dual named feature in the Northern Territory. The order of the dual names was officially reversed to "Uluru/Ayers Rock" on 6 November 2002 following a request from the Regional Tourism Association in Alice Springs.

The Italian town of MILANO is called Mailand by the Germans...
The Danish town of KØBENHAVN is called Copenhagen by english speakers...
The Russian of MOSKVA is called Mouskou by the French...
The MEKONG river is called Maenam Khong in Laos...
...and I could go on and on and on...

I am just trying to point out that different countries have different names for the same thing. This also applies to etheral things like freedom, democracy, dictatorship, peace......

So Ayers Rock, Uluru, same difference, please accept that even if we are black, white, yellow, pink, brown or gay, we still live on this earth together, for whatever it is worth

(drat, cannot find philosophical font)

The aboriginals call it Uluru, white Australians named it Ayers rock. Supposedly now we will call it Uluru out of respect or something. It still Ayers rock to most of us.
