The italian, Materazzi (or something) is known in the football world to be a right prick, with a behaviour only a blind and deaf person could approve of.
When he could not neutralize Zizous talent and skills as a footballer, he did that by using unsportsmanlike behaviour...But that does not excuse Zizous behaviour...A sad end to a great career...

This reaction by Zidane was really sad. He plaied several years in Italy, and we appreciate him, it is really sad that he finishes his carreer in this way.

....however...

WE ARE THE CHANPIONS OF THE WORLD FOR THE FOURTH TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to reports, Materazzi spoke in Italian - a language understood by Zidane due to his time spent with Juventus F.C. - and first told him: "Hold on, wait, that one's not for a nigger like you." As the players walked forward, Materazzi allegedly said: "We all know you are the son of a terrorist whore." Then, just before the headbutt, he was seen saying: "So just fuck off."

...so he didn't say nothing special, nothing different from what players usually tell to each other during the matches smiling
smiley ...not nice words, but Zidane, a champion like him, who is an example for children, shouldn't have done that, it is really sad

mkcerusky... italy may have won, but it was a weak way to win... France really played a better game. And Zidane's ego even overshadowed that fact.

Well, as they won the Eurocup in the same way as we won this cup I can only feel better if this win was weak. The best team of a tournamente is always the team that wins, because it has something "more" then the other teams.
France plaied well, but showed to be unable to shoot in goal, our goal keeper did only ONE good safe, don't forget this.

According to Zidane and Materazzi this is not true.
Zidane only said that Materazzi told him bad words concerning the women of his family (namily sister and maybe wyfe). This are things that happen always during football mathces, but it almost never happens that one has a reaction like that of Zidane. Now, only because he is French and Materazzi is Italian it turns out that Zidane is the victim and Materazzi the aggressor, while it is exactly the opposite.
When two years ago Totti spitted on the face of the danish player Poulsen no one aoutside Italy even thought of investigating why Totti did that and nobody questioned what how Poulsen provocated Totti, and Totti got disqualified for a long time. Why in that case, for only a spit, Totti was the aggressor, and now, for a much heavy physical aggression Zidane is considered to be the victim?
I find this pathetic.

Have a look here:

[news.bbc.co.uk]

...basically in that interview Zidane looks a bit pathetic, reminds of a child crying out "mum they told me bad words, buaaaaah!"

definitely just frustration. and it would seem that zidane wasn't really the "example for children" that he was thought to be

i don't care what was said, the response was deplorable and should be dealt with by banishment from soccer completely.
let this be an example of what will NEVER be tolerated in professional or international sports EVER!

not that materazzi was completely innocent, he grabs for his face not his chest where he was clearly hit

of course 131109 no one thinks that Materazzi is a saint.

What I don't understand is why public medias are trying to make Zidane appearing as the victim, they are making it too big, now we also had public protests from Algeria and France, only because Materazzi said "bad words" about Zidane's sister?!
If we were to take so seriously evrything football players tell to each other during the match then there would be a war every week. Players usually insult each other, and then the day after you find them drinking together. What is happening now is simply ridicolous.
