As an over-the-road truck owner and driver, I'm no fan of NYC. Maybe I should say that I prefer to appreciate it from a distance. I'm no fan of the French either, but I've posted a pic of the Statue of Liberty. There is however, a beauty in the architecture. All my pics are my own originals and the vast majority were taken from a moving 18-wheeler and have been posted with little or no editing.

Thanks Blah. cool smiley

Pro, do you still drive? I just sold my '06 reefer and bought a 2012 53' Reitnouer Step. I'm bored off my ass, because it’s taking way longer than planned to get everything set up. I’ve been sitting at the house for three weeks already. I should be out on the road by the end of next week though, so my posts will soon slow to a trickle.

Tim, setup a camera on your dash, get a laptop and cellular connection for it then setup an automatic update so us retired drivers can live vicariously through you. Don't forget the beaver shots from the cab. 10-4 good buddy?

You know "good buddy" for the last ten years or so has meant homosexual, and been used derogatorily, right? As far the dash cam, I’ve been toying with the idea of installing the same make and model that is favored by police agencies, but they cost around $2k for entry level models. I’m more interested in reducing my liability in the even I’m involved in a crash. I do have a collection of about 15,000 pics I’ve taken over the years, though. Mostly just scenery from the highway, so many are very similar.

Yes we need more OC at plus613 so please don't desert us.
I would be equally interested in pics of food from your travels. Long haul drivers are supposed to know all the best diners and truckstops.
You can upload pics direct from your phone (unless you bought an iPhone) so keep 'em coming.

I have a fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee percolator and hot water pot in my truck, so I never eat in any of the truck stops anymore. So many of the mom and pops are closed and the big chains pretty much all suck. I could post some pics of Marie Callander’s frozen dinners and maybe some Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.smoking

2012 53' Reitnouer Step - those are very nice trailers, spread-axle? tri-axle? I pulled mostly Reinke trailers which I thought were pretty decent, Ravens look nice but are over-rated...I was never an Owner Operator, just a company driver, I worked for some pretty decent paying companies and drove some really nice trucks so I couldn't complain much...I drove OTR for about 6-7 years, then local for 3-4 years, was a hostler at a big company that makes cookies and crackers for 3 years, I've been off work for the last 6 months or so healing from worn out shoulders and surgery on one shoulder...not sure if I will be able to go back to driving again or not, but I have no desire to drive OTR anymore...woberto, et al, it isn't the glamorous "paid tourist' career that it is portrayed as in the movies, it isn't just a job it's a way of has its good points for sure, but for me personally the bad outweighs the good...I have no desire to ever again smell the stench of urine baking in the sun on the asphalt of a truck-stop parking lot...I was at the forty-niner in sacramento one time, I was sitting in my truck doing paperwork when I just happened to look up and notice the drivers door of the truck parked across the lot from me swing open and I saw bare feet step out onto the running board, and I thought, holy shit, no fucking way this guy is gonna walk around out there barefoot is he?? nope, he just stood right there on his top step and pissed on the ground right there...welcome to any-truck-stop USA folks, filthy places..but not many other options out there to park 70' feet of truck..
and yeah, "good buddy" is tantamount to "faggot" in the definition of a buddy is a guy you might hang out with and watch the game, or go shoot some pool together, you call your buddy when you need help moving...the definition of a good buddy is a guy that will go downtown and get two blowjobs and then come back and try and give you one...

oh yeah, that whole thing about truckers knowing the best place to eat? it is somewhat true, but again, parking is always a factor...rigs are a bit bigger now then they were back in the smokey and the bandit days..
as far as truck stop chains go, I preferred Petro, I liked their salad bar/buffet, and their shower rooms were usually pretty clean...
btw 'buffet' is an acronym...

The Reitnouer is a 10’1” sliding spread on 19.5s yielding a main deck height of 37”. Other than having 13 lights per side and nine across the back it’s just a plain Jane working man’s trailer. I’ve been driving since 1997, bought my first truck in 2005 and Incorporated and started running under my own federal Authority in 2008. It’s a lot of work, but I now know that I could never have another “job” again. I work when I want and even in this crappy economy make way more than enough to pay the bills. When I’m on the road I usually stay out three to six weeks and bust my ass for all it’s worth, but then I come home for two to four weeks, so I get a nice vacation every month or so.

I don’t eat at any of these places anymore, but when my wife team drove with me, we’d stop when we got a chance. The best places (truck stops) left I know of on the road to eat are:
Seven Feathers (Exit 98 I think on I-5 in Oregon)
R Place in Morris, IL off I-80 (Exit 112, I think). TA bought it a couple years ago, but so far has lived up to its promise not to screw with the restaurant.
Jubitz in Portland, OR (Exit 307 I think, off I-5) is pretty good as well
There’s a little mom & pop east of Boise that’s pretty good, too. I think they’re called The Stage Stop and might be at exit 71 off I-84, or something like that. They actually have a sign prominently located that informs patrons that truck drivers will be seated and waited on before anyone else.
When we used to haul cars and ran the NW a lot, we used to like to stop at Shari’s (think Denny’s or Perkins only ten times better with excellent coffee). There’s one located between the TA and Flying J in Troutdale, OR (Exit 22 (maybe)) off I-84 in Oregon that we frequented a lot.
Black Bear Diners are nice when you can find one in a mall that won’t kick you out for parking for an hour or so.

You’re right about the disgusting state of most truck stops. That is one of the reasons why I buy my fuel and get the hell out. If I need a shower, I try to stop in the middle of the day when there’s less chance of some non-driving dumbass taking my hood off. I prefer to park on rest area ramps and exits where there are wide berms and little traffic.
One of the newer fads being driven by certain immigrants is packing three or four or five guys in the truck and all of them taking turns driving. The truck never stops except for fuel and to deliver or pick up, so they cut a hole in the floor of the sleeper so they can shit through it while the truck is going down the road. I thought this was bullshit until I heard if from several mechanics over a couple years. They say they will go in the pit to service a truck and it will have toilette paper stuck all under the frame and driveshaft. Most of them refuse to work on those trucks and I don’t blame them.

One time, I was getting fuel at a Flying J at night, and this guy, pulls into the fuel island next to me and starts pumping fuel. I’m over by my driver’s side tank by the catwalk and I look over and the guy is on the passenger side of his truck by the catwalk and he strikes up a conversation with me. I immediately realize that this guy is not only pumping fuel, but his standing there with his dick out, pissing at the fuel island while he’s trying to talk to me about the weather. I tell him I hear it’s going to be “pissy” and hang up the nozzle and pull out of the island. Some people are just too dumb or inconsiderate or selfish to get it.totally

Sorry about the good buddy I haven't had a CB since the '70s. When I drove my cargo was 25 tons of bombs from pier to air force base. Over a million miles driven and only ran over one Toyota Celica in '72. Watched a lot of seat covers and frequently saw naked women driving in public and never lost control of the rig. Who knew driving for the navy would not translate to civilian companies. None would hire me when I got out because they said I didn't have verifiable experience. Brockway truck with twin sticks 4 speeds each stick, lots of shifting.
